    Accuracy is Essential

At the heart of hypertension management is the need for accurate blood pressure measurement. That’s why the American Medical Association (AMA) established the U.S. Blood Pressure Validated Device Listing (VDL)—a trusted resource for clinicians, care teams, and patients alike. The VDL features blood pressure devices independently validated for clinic accuracy.

    Our Mission

Our goal is to make it easy to choose blood pressure devices that have been clinically tested and shown to produce accurate and reliable readings. Whether you are a health care organization, physician, care team member or patient, having access to accurate information is critical to effective care.

  • An Independent and Transparent Process

    An Independent and Transparent Process

The process for devices to be listed on the VDL is designed to be independent and objective. The National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago (NORC), a nonprofit institution, manages this independent review process. Manufacturers are encouraged to submit documentation on their BP devices for consideration. The Independent Review Committee (IRC) works closely with NORC to review each submission and decides whether a device meets the established VDL Criteria. The AMA does not play a role in the independent review process. When a device is approved by the IRC and the manufacturer agrees to be listed, the AMA adds the device to the VDL.

    Empowering Better Health Decisions

We believe that access to clinically validated blood pressure devices is crucial for managing hypertension effectively. That’s why we encourage healthcare professionals and patients to explore the VDL regularly, as it is continuously updated with the latest devices proven to meet the highest standards of accuracy.
